Frequently Asked Questions

  1. General
    1. Q: What is this site about?
A: Our goal is to guide World of Warcraft players to maximize their PvE effectiveness. The carefully selected checks and advisories help to identify common pitfalls and mistakes whether they are talent or gear related. We hope that our service presents a useful guidance for the casual and hardcore PvE player alike.
    2. Q: What checks are performed?
      A: The checks include:
      • Talent build checks seeking for left out vital talents or overrated telents.
      • Gear check for unenchanted or misenchanted items.
      • Gear check for ungemmed items or items gemmed improperly.
      • Stats checks for DPS and Tank characters.
    3. Q: What sources are used?
A: character data: The World of Warcraft Armory, item data: www.wowhead.com, icons: RPG Outfitter.
    4. Q: It is slow. Why?
A: To generate our report we need to look up your character in the Armory first. After this we need to fetch data for all of your gear, enchants and gems. As we depend on third-party data sources the speed of the reports is highly affected by the response time of these sources.
    5. Q: I am queued. Why?
A: To keep server resource usage at a sane level and to prevent "swarming" of the third-party data sources we use a wait queue for group queries. Currently 8 concurrent guild queries are allowed. This limit may be lifted in the future.
    6. Q: The guild report only returns 40 characters. Why?
A: If you select more than one class for a report we limit the number of returned characters to 40. This is in order to keep the queue times at the minimum possible. The guild reports are meant for class leaders / officers to check a subset of the guild members they are interested in. Mass querying of huge guilds is not our goal, if you are interested in every class, please perform subsequent queries with the other classes selected. This limit may be lifted in the future.
    7. Q: Why only PvE?
A: There are too many factors for talent builds and too few factors for gear in PvP.
    8. Q: What is this cached thing?
A: Since the Armory is not realtime, there is no need to always pull down the data associated with your character. Each fresh snapshot is valid for four hours, during that period subsequent queries of the same character will use our local cached data.
  2. Privacy Policy
    1. Q: Accounts and e-mails
A: In order to access certain parts of the site, you may need to create an account in our forums software wich requires a valid e-mail address. To prevent unwanted messages from other users please double-check your privacy settings found in the Profile / Privacy menu.

The e-mail addresses collected are only used to dispatch certain system messages when a user initiates something that needs e-mail based feedback (like changing your password).

We will never ever share these e-mail addresses with a 3rd party.
    2. Q: Google Advertising Cookie, DART
A: We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. 3. Error messages / Troubleshooting
    1. Q: My toon is not showing up new gear!
A: Check your toon in the Armory if it's fresh there or not, most of the time it's the Armory being late with character updates.
    2. Q: I lost / forgot my password!
A: You can recover your password here.
    3. Q: How do I change my password?
A: You can change your current password on your forum profile page.
    4. Q: I've changed my password but it's not working!
A: Make sure that you read the whole e-mail you receive. Changing the password requires a visit to an activation url. Failing to do so will leave your password change request unfinished.
    5. Q: The reports are not working at all!
A: Please see the next entry.
    6. Q: I am queued forever, why?
A: Usually this happens if something restrictive is in effect between your browser and the site (firewall / proxy / browser settings). Please visit the browser test page, if your browser passes the tests and your queries are still not working please make sure that no firewall is blocking cookies or the referer header.

Firewall softwares with known issues: Kerio Personal Firewall, Zone Alarm.
    7. Q: Invalid response caught while...
A: If the pages are loading very slowly, then most likely the server is overloaded causing some of the requests to fail. If the site seems to be responsive then it may be a firewall restriction on your side, please see the previous entry.
    8. Q: Error fetching data, please try again later.
A: Most probably it is an Armory related problem. This happens when the Armory or other third-party sources do not respond or respond too slowly.
    9. Q: Error processing data, please try again later.
A: Most probably it is an Armory related problem. This happens when the Armory or other third-party sources respond with erroneous content.
    10. Q: Character not found in Armory.
A: This happens when you query an invalid realm and/or character name or when there is a temporary problem with Armory.
    11. Q: Why do you blame Armory? It is working for me!
A: It may work for you, and block the site temporarily at the same time. It is a bit different to send thousands of queries to the Armory and to query your toon once a day. ;)
    12. Q: You already have a report queued, please finish that report first.
      A: This happens when:
      a) you are trying to run multiple queries at the same time.
      b) if you happen to close your browser or reload the page before a report is finished your query is stuck in the queue. Stuck queries are cleaned up after 90 seconds. This is in order to prevent accidental removals from the queue when the armory is lagging.
  4. Talent checks
    1. Q: Why do you think talent X or Y is good or bad?
A: The base of the individual talent evaluations are common sense and the endless knowledge hoarded together in the World of Warcraft class forums over the past two years.
    2. Q: How do you evaluate PvE/PvP/Farm builds?
A: Each talent has an internal score representing it's usefulness PvE, PvP and farming wise. These scores are matched against your talents chosen and the biggest score determines the evaluation of your build.
    3. Q: But I am PvE, and you say I am not, why?
A: Don't be scared about this. It can happen if the lower tier talents are more PvP/Farm oriented and you need to take them to advance in your tree. These checks are going to be refined over time, if you want to help please post your talent build in the forums so we can review it individually and further tune the talent checks.
  5. Gear checks
    1. Q: Why do you think enchant X or Y is good or bad?
A: When evaluating enchants the most important factor is common sense when deciding which enchants are the most viable PvE wise for a class.
    2. Q: But I still think that enchant X or Y is treated badly here.
A: If you are sure, please feel free to discuss it in the forums. If it is our mistake, we will correct it asap.
  6. Hints
    1. Q: What is PvE gear score?
A: It is a measure of the PvE "power" of your gear.
Your items' absolute item budget value is calculated and added together, this gives your raw gear score. Some items are excluded from this calculation, like for example Riding Crop, fishing poles, and similar items.

For PvP items the item budget value for the non-PvE stats is calculated (this includes Spell Penetration, Resilience, and some fraction of the Stamina bonus depending on the character's role), the total of these values is your PvP penalty score.

Every socketed gem's item budget value is determined and totaled, giving your gem score. Some gems have reduced or zero value if they are meant for PvP.

Every enchant's item budget value is determined and totaled, giving your enchant score. Some enchants have reduced or zero value if they are meant for PvP.

Your final PvE Gear Score is: Sum of (Raw Scores - PvP Penalties) + Gem Scores + Enchant Scores.
    2. Q: What is the Gear-o-Meter?
A: The Gear-o-Meter is a nifty graph showing your estimated positions in the PvE progress line. It displays two values:

      a) The red bar shows an estimated position where you should go for linear upgrades. This is based on your pure gear score (Raw Score - PvP Penalty).

      b) The blue bar shows an estimated position where you should perform well in your current gear taking into account your gems and enchants too.
Please keep in mind that these are estimated values and it assumes that your raid's gear level is roughly the same like yours. Don't start arguments that you can raid Black Temple in blue gear with 24 others in T6 from head to toe. ;)
